Diabetes is one the major illness with which every other person is suffering from. It is an irreversible condition that can damage the whole body in various ways. Insulin acts on body cell because to which glucose can enter into the cells, but in diabetes due to lack of insulin body cells are not able to utilize the glucose and it keeps circulating in the blood. 1. High Blood Sugar Can Damage The Blood Vessels:

Obesity and diabetes usually go side by side. Therefore, high blood sugar can contribute to the accumulation of fatty deposits in the blood vessels. This can cause narrowing of the vessels; this condition is known as atherosclerosis. This tends to increase the blood pressure due to narrowing of the lumen.

2. Damage To Kidneys

Damage to kidneys’ caused by diabetes is called diabetic nephropathy. The increased amount of glucose in the blood can damage the filtering ability of kidneys. This can lead to glycosuria and albuminuria, which means glucose and albumin are been excreted in the urine. Usually, urine is free from glucose and albumin.  This clearly depicts the damage to kidneys.

3. Damage To Eyes

High blood sugar can damage the micro-vessels this can damage the eyes and the condition is called diabetic retinopathy. This can cause blurry vision and it is very crucial to take serious measures as soon as possible to prevent permanent loss of vision.

4. Ketoacidosis

It is one of the major complications of diabetes. When body cells are deprived of glucose they utilize different modes to provide energy. Most of the time it is done by breaking of body fats. when fats are been utilized, ketones bodies are formed as a by-product. The increased amount of ketones and dehydration due to loss of water can make the blood pH acidic. This is an emergent condition and IV fluids along with IV insulin is mandatory to reverse the condition.

5. Gastric Problem

Damage to micro-vessels can ultimately damage the nerves. One of the complications of diabetes is gastroparesis. Basically in this condition due to a decrease in neuronal signaling, there is difficulty in emptying of the stomach. This can cause gastric problems.

6. Lack Of Moisture On Skin

Changes in the skin can make the skin more vulnerable to injuries. Due to dryness, skin can crack and break easily. This can lead to infections. Therefore, applying moisturizer is the best way to prevent these minor injuries.

7. Neuropathy

Damage to micro-vessels can disrupt the blood supply to nerves. This can damage the nerves. Due to which person’s ability to sense pain, touch and temperature differences are highly affected.

8. Gestational Diabetes

Increase in blood sugar during pregnancy is called gestational diabetes. This is one the major risk for the baby and mother both. If not treated, then babies can become giant in the womb which can pose multiple complications during delivery. Also, there are higher chances that baby would be suffering from diabetes from a very young age.

9. Delayed Wound Healing

This is one of the complications which can have very devastating side effects. Delayed wound healing is one of the factors which can damage the cells beyond repair and this can infect the body tissue so badly that person has to go for amputation to prevent further damage to healthy tissues.
